Dr. Giridhar

Dr. Giridhar is a Psychiatrist trained at NIMHANS and has 26 years of experience in clinical practice

His concern about the non availability of mental health facilities in smaller towns and villages along with his passion for farming and nature led to his moving to a small town named Sirsi in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, India.

For over two decades now he has been rendering his services to people in need of mental health care from all sections of society. He has also made himself available to the underprivileged by selflessly committing to treat and offer support to the people who seek help through the  Government hospitals. His regular visits to nearby towns have ensured regular follow up and treatment of several daily wage labourers for whom mental health care would have been far to reach. He is the recipient of the Ratan Tata Memorial Trust fellowhip to facilitate the mental health of women by increasing awareness about Depression and its treatment.

He is the Founder and present President of Prashanti Foundation, which has been operating a rehabilitation center for people with different types of disabilities since the past 17 years. This project is a one of its kind, a social enterprise which has attempted and managed a sustainable approach to the care of disability.

He has been actively involved with a team dedicated to improving the quality of learning for children and adolescents. He is part of this initiative named Kalike, which operates a community library, facilitates sessions for children with diverse learning needs, and is working to provide an enriching socio emotional environment to all children, especially from less privileged sections of society.

In responding to the needs of the community, he is also the honorary psychiatrist in consultation for a Geriatric Home in Sirsi.

He refreshes himself through regular cycling, badminton, treks,  music,  and vegetable gardening. His love for playing,  animals and agriculture have kept him grounded and in close contact with the earth.
